Just saw a meme on Bsky about some dipshit trying to force their 92 year old grandma to use Signal because "opsec". Someone in the replies says "average grapheneos user". A GrapheneOS mod proceeds to reply saying "Not really,-" and then talk about how any GOOD grandchild would in fact make their aging tech-illiterate grandma use Signal and how it's actually morally correct to do that and- Like holy shit I'm going to use Graphene because fuck Google but Graphene's team really does believe that the FBI is going to break your door down if you use iMessage once

@shio@eepy.moe can only speak about the graphene channel on fedi. To my knowledge it is run by one of the lead developers (pls fact check that). My read on the situation is: They tend to be a bit overenthusiastic about some things and might not be able to find the best words; read the room correctly at all times. Traits a lot of folks, especially those working in tech have, even more so when it is about topics they are passionate about. Anonymity of the internet or at least the case one is not speaking face-to-face to one another but rather type texts into a computer, perhaps after a stressful day, further elevate this. Maybe they are not aware how others perceive this behaviour. I am pretty sure they like to improve on that and, with a bit of help, are able to do so. Maybe they are doing so already but it just takes them a bit longer than 'we' would wish for. I had the thought of writing them a friendly message about this topic the other day as I was seeing a similar pattern to {other answers here}, but I am not good with words either and fear doing more harm than good. This is not to invalidate anyones message here in any way. Just be aware that talking about things in a constructive manner with the ones involved is often way more effective; I know how hard that is in online spaces tho!
