In my experience, this is not that far away from how people treat mental abilities and psychological traits. As if people just are or aren't "intelligent", as if people just are or aren't "moral". Of course you could argue, that there is a very strict limit to how much people can improve and maybe, mentally that limit is reached way sooner, than physically for many people, but there is room, often a lot of unused room for improvement. 2/

    To me the average person has the mental equivalent of an "office job" and a gym membership that was made as a new years resolution, but then forgotten about. As if "not being in shape" is just a permanent and unchangable property and everything that isn't possible in that state, is impossible at all. And that way of thinking seems then to be projected on society in general, if a better "me" isn't possible, a better "everyone else" and a better "we" isn't as well. 3/
