To me the average person has the mental equivalent of an "office job" and a gym membership that was made as a new years resolution, but then forgotten about.
As if "not being in shape" is just a permanent and unchangable property and everything that isn't possible in that state, is impossible at all.
And that way of thinking seems then to be projected on society in general, if a better "me" isn't possible, a better "everyone else" and a better "we" isn't as well.

Many people seem to see "self-improvement" as "put in more energy, that you already lack, to burn out even quicker". As if people imagine progress during working out more like them becoming able to force themself to do more, put in more effort and go through more pain. In fact, the oppositie is true, as your fitness improves, working out gets easier. It's as if many people have made this experience a lot, but never fully internalised it, never fully learned it. 4/
