Too many people mistake personal preferences for universal truths.
I just read a fascist statement that cultures can be ranked.
Believe it or not, that doesn't bother me at all.
At my level of knowledge and ignorance, I rank cultures that build cities above those that don't. (This is one, among many, reasons why I adore México. They built cities larger than Europe's cities, in a land without iron. I suspect I would adore southeast Asia for the same reason.)
But I have a huge problem with anyone who says those choices are objective -- as those fascists did.
How one chooses which cultural assets are important are subjective, not objective. So the ranking of cultures is also subjective, not objective.
No, all cultures are not equal -- but that doesn't mean there is an objectively "best" culture.
