FYI: ⬆️ for a thread on a WA state bill regulating automated decision systems. Written comments, even if short, are very helpful - you don't have to be a WA resident. And, WA residents can "sign in" to state a position without comment! If you can't see the thread, it's at https://pnw.zone/@waprivacy/109855636017837419 Please help get the word out! @emilymbender @megyoung @meg @nwprogressive @bitz @timnitGebru @schock @randomwalker @evangreer @ali @gleemie @geomblog @hypervisible @jilliancyork @FrankPasquale @Wolven

D'oh! I forgot the bill text, in case anybody wants to read it ... although you can certainly give good comments without delving into the details. I'll hopefully have a summary up by tomorrow night. https://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/2023-24/Pdf/Bills/Senate%20Bills/5356.pdf?q=20230212160820

@emilymbender @megyoung @meg @nwprogressive @bitz @timnitGebru @schock @randomwalker @evangreer @ali @gleemie @hypervisible @jilliancyork @FrankPasquale @Wolven Here's what went down at the ADS hearing and possible next steps. https://privacy.thenexus.today/automated-decision-systems-regulation/#hearing @geomblog, the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights got mentioned -- Sen Hasegawa said it would be ideal if it got used as a framework for state regulation moving forward. Which doesn't mean it's going to happen, but still nice to hear.
