@jdp23 @Em0nM4stodon good news! A question: this paragraph: "The EU Commission and the vast majority of the EU Council—except for Italy—have so far categorically rejected any restrictions on untargeted mass scanning." Seems to contradict the first paragraph, which I understand to say that parliament rejects it entirely. Or is there now a mojor conflict between Parliament and commission/council?

  • @deborahh It's not unusual for the Commission, Council and Parliament to be at odds. The Council tends to represent perceived 'national interests', the Commission is arguably unduly influenced by lobbyists, while the Parliament tends to better reflect public opinion. I think the European public generally has reached the point where anything coming from US big business is treated with suspicion. @jdp23 @Em0nM4stodon
