@pathfinder @Susan60 @misaimed_brain @callunavulgaris @autistics Anyone watch 'The Other Bennet Sister' on the iplayer at the moment? I feel like they're coding Mary as autistic. Overall the show wasn't amazing, like, the writing is a bit cartoony or something. But then other parts genuinely moved me to tears, where Mary is gaining more acceptance and insight in to her (possibly autistic) needs. I found parts of it truly graceful.

  • @AoifeGreenhamIllustrations @pathfinder @Susan60 @misaimed_brain @autistics Yes, we watched it. I'm not normally into the concept of taking on someone else's characters but I thought this was well-intentioned. And yes, I felt Mary was very ubsubtly positioned as being autistic but if people accept that an Austen heroine can be autistic then there's hope for the rest of us 😄

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations @pathfinder @Susan60 @misaimed_brain @callunavulgaris @autistics I didn't consciously think that, but I intuitively warmed to her character. Very enjoyable, if predictable show. You know exactly who she's in love with from the moment they meet, and it's only a matter of time for the plot to remove all the obstacles in the way. That said, I agree it's also genuinely moving. I liked how the less pleasant characters, even Mr Collins, had their moments of redemption.
