Obviously not all allistics are the same. But I do think that the sheer degree of difference between individual autistic's is something they just really can't encompass. It is so far outside their experience and expectations of how people are and does indeed make it difficult for them to understand us, even if they are truly trying to.
Although to be fair to them, even those of us who are coming to this much later in life struggle with this one at times.

@pathfinder @callunavulgaris @autistics I think part of the issue is the presentation of autistic people in media within a pretty narrow range. There's also the issue of motivation to learn. Having grown up not seeing myself as autistic, I hadn't really the motivation to properly explore until a consultant said I may have autistic traits.
