Niche question: Does anyone on here know whether late #antique #papyrus documents were ruled? Images and references much appreciated! #palaeography @medievodons @histodons

@litteracarolina@mastodon.online @medievodons@a.gup.pe @histodons@a.gup.pe I always go to the BAV (surprising!) for papyrus, and none of them that I have seen there have traces of ruling. https://www.wiglaf.org/vatican/fonds/Pap.Vat.lat.html is a good collection to check

@litteracarolina@mastodon.online Check out this codex, it's been made of both parchment and papyrus (I think it's the only one we know of this kind), so if there's a papyrus where you'd expect to find ruling (esp. on the side where the fiber is vertical), it would be this one, aaaaaand… I don't think there is: https://florus.miraheze.org/Special:Redirect/page/564
