@phil_stevens It is a strange conceit, that when people demonstrably do harm, people are only allowed to punish them through the vehicle of commerce.
That's never been the case in the past.
Some asshole pollute the waters?
Dead.
Some asshole burn down the forest?
Dead.
Let's find some Golden Middle Way between these two, like, maybe not kill them but rather put them to work in environment restoration.

@androcat Back when corporations were still a New Thing, they were chartered by the state. One of the conditions of a charter was the "licence" or consent of society. If a company was deemed to have breached that contract, its charter could be revoked and the whole thing liquidated. Bring back the corporate death penalty, along with jail terms for execs.
