I think this post is right that Meta doesn't care at all about Mastodon (though I try to avoid leaning on ascribed motives in decision-making!) but very wrong about Threads not being a likely harassment vector.
Threads *already* hosts the exact anti-LGBT harassment vector that made "groomer" a mainstream right-wing slur—and blocking that one account does almost nothing to prevent its harms.

@kissane I assume that federation with Threads can only be safe if all the followers of accounts like LoTT are pre-blocked. This is not a Bad Speech problem, this is a Bad People problem.

@kissane I agree that Threads will be a conduit for harassment but I think (?) the author is right that "silence mode" would be sufficient to block it. See "limit" (the new name) on this description of Mastodon moderation functions: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/moderation/
