RE: https://nondeterministic.computer/@mjg59/116424709251813699 A day later and indeed almost all replies are variations of "Oh no not like that". (This post is not an argument for or against LLMs, I'm simply noting people decided to confirm what @mjg59 said)

@suihkulokki@society.oftrolls.com @mjg59@nondeterministic.computer what I find interesting is how people talk about "ethical issues" like a million kittens were killed for training the LLMs, as opposed to the reality: copyrights and IPs were violated. Interestingly it's mostly the same people who would have otherwise agreed 💯 on disregarding them, if it weren't for corporates benefitting from them.

@suihkulokki@society.oftrolls.com @mjg59@nondeterministic.computer I mean, people thinking LLMs, especially the one anyone actually uses, are a bad solution to that problem with externalities they don't find acceptable, causing lock-in to predatory rent seekers for creating software, are going to say that. What's your point?

@suihkulokki@society.oftrolls.com @mjg59@nondeterministic.computer I mean, it's kind of a setup. Us: Hunger can be addressed by eating. Them: Us: Not like that! Not equivocating infanticide and cannibalism with LLM use, just noting it's trivial to bait people into confirming one's argument.
