Yesterday, I went to a Yakudoshi for a coworker and had a surprisingly good time chatting with people I’d just met there. Then, I went to my niece’s place and gave her some cake and mochi (from the Yakudoshi) and $50 for her 17th bday. Then, I had dinner with a friend. It was a pretty great day 😃 Some pics from the Yakudoshi below.

What’s really cool about the cake, is Blake’s father apparently drew the birthday message and Liliha Bakery replicated it on their delicious and well-known banana chantilly cake! I was so impressed with the drawing and the turtle 🐢 stood out to me since the rest of the imagery was more common in Japanese themed images I’ve seen. It reminded me a bit of hanafuda cards and woodblock prints. What a thoughtful thing for his dad to do. 💙
