"wayland kills small window managers! wayland is made to push big DEs onto everyone"-mfs be like wayland is so thin and flexible that here we have a compositor that can be embedded in a toolkit RE: https://mastodon.social/@xjuan/116433187803999312

@navi huh so theoretically we could have stuff like vst plugins' windows running under a small compositor inside the digital audio thing well, if vst or something similar supported wayland

@navi "wayland kills small window managers" yea because writing yet another compositor is surprisingly enough not a good idea if the only part you're interested in is the window management part, in which case, make a window management protocol / api on top of wayland and voila. wait, what ? it already exists now, and is called river, and there's already more than a dozen small window managers that work on top of it ? wowies, guess the argument is dead

  • @navi@social.vlhl.dev i quite like sway. its cozy, lets me basically use my i3 config... yeah. wayland is great. also the upstream wayland fixed a TON of nvidia issues i had, somehow.

@navi Seems to me it's the other way around: the big DEs are the ones pushing Wayland hard.

  • @navi wayland window managers can exist, it's just that everyone is too chuddy to wanna use the software made by "them" (them being whatever minority lunduke told them to hate that day)
