Thinking about... do we even HAVE a word for software that does not need to be updated or maintained? Or is there just the implicit assumption that every piece of software ever needs constant updates, and if it doesn't get them that's a bad thing?

    @socks@social.emisocks.com It kinda feels like anything that interacts with the Internet needs eternal maintenance? I wouldn't assume a program I run locally would require maintenance, per se, but I also don't expect software to run forever. Like I bought a copy of Corel Photopaint in the 90s, and by the mid or late 2000s, it didn't work very well anymore. And that seemed normal to me -- I'd long since retired all the hardware that I'd originally used it with.
