@tty The backstay replacement was due to a big cut we found in one of the strands, it was compromised. For the headstay, its very old, never been replaced, and the stay is hidden under a roller furler sleeve so we never get to see it(removing the sleeve is a bit involved). Given how much we've sailed that boat and that we dont know the true age of that stay, it's just safer to replace it.
