To be clear: we all think like that, to an extent. We all judge ourselves for our motivations and others for their actions. It's inevitable. We have insight into ourselves that we never will into others. Not fully.
But the *extent* to which we believe we are unique and above those pesky limitations others face is whether we end up politically conservative, in my opinion.
It's really funny that the buzzword for conservatives some years ago was "snowflake", when there's no one believing they're more special and unique than a reactionary.

Hence, of course, the "rugged individualism" that ends with excuses the fucking nanosecond a conservative encounters actual hardship. Then it's always others' fault. Always, always, always.
