@cdegroot Alexander's (Chris' !) forward to Patterns of Software had a triumphal note that e.g. the pattern language stuff had eventually practically improved architecture after decades of unsuccessfully exploring the new ideas and turning up failures and problems. In particular Alexander challenged Gabriel to eventually show a result improving the theory of software analogously. I I R C.
