Went back and read that 2016 Guardian interview with Ottessa Moshfegh where she says she wrote Eileen by buying a book called The 90-Day Novel and following all its instructions. I also love that she has absolutely no social media presence, as far as I could find. Her publisher links to a supposed Facebook page that doesn't exist Reminds me of Mary Roach's social presence. She built one when her most recent book came out, made a few posts during book tour, then abandoned it

@jilleduffy I love this so much. I’ve read a bunch of those types of books (‘Write Your Dissertation in 15 Minutes a Day’/‘Million-Dollar Weekend’/‘Learn [programming or foreign language] in 24 Hours’). I always find, as she says, the constraint of it interesting. I’ve rarely attempted to follow one and consider a lot of the authors to be charlatans, but I don’t think *she* deserves any shit for doing it. She obviously did the work, and her attitude about it is aces in my book.
