@untitaker "Fully European" and "Usable only with a device and a contractual agreement with either Google or Apple" don't sound consistent.
The state of the art in the Netherlands lets me pay online to local online merchants without any American company involved, using a regular browser.

@whynothugo fully European in the sense that the debanking risk is meaningfully addressed and that American companies don't participate in the payment process. There's a meaningful difference between using Visa vs not, and the choice to start with mobile apps doesn't mean that they'll not end up extending to browsers State of the art I'd say is based on what people use today. we have online payment over SEPA too, and it's not popular. the mobile web isn't popular.
