@elliek Decades ago I headed to England for grad school, and many people advised me to get over there early — before the academic year began — because it was the last year that foreign students would be covered by the NHS. I did go early. Experienced the best — free healthcare for a grad student was a terrific benefit! Got my John Lennon wire rim glasses, etc. Also experienced the worst — queuing by malingerers (OAPs, et al.) who needed other social support — not offered. Eye opening!

    @RunRichRun "It was the best of times it was the worst of times" and, like you I've experienced them both, having lived in England for 20 years (70's, 80's). This time it's for my elderly father-in-law, which is in many ways harder.
