Rupert was such a special cat and our first Cornish Rex. 2002-2019 We still miss him. He was the cat we didn't want! We specially wanted a female, solid colour (brown or black or grey). But the minute we saw this tiny squirming red tiger-marked tabby male kitten, we knew he was ours! He was not only a wonderful friend and companion, full of character, but when we took him to his only cat show at 8 months old, he won his championship and every other prize going and the hearts of the judges...

#ThreeGoodThings 1. I got to talk to my dear young Iranian friend for almost an hour yesterday. It was such a joy to see her lovely face and hear her reassuring me that she and her family really are okay. 2. A beautiful monarch butterfly spent some time flying around the marsh milkweed we planted 2 years ago. Such a joy to see. 3. This pretty coneflower (echinacea), left over from my patch of wildflowers that is almost taken over by common milkweed, was discovered by a leaf cutter bee, late...

Tree Seed Pod Have you ever seen anything like this? Maybe. But it's completely new to me. Really look at it. Isn't it exquisite? Check out the detail by zooming in. These were all over the ground when we stopped at Kingsport Beach on our bike ride. It's just such a gorgeous design, at first I thought this was part of a bracelet that had broken and been left on the picnic table. But too beautiful! I couldn't stop looking at it. #EllieKPosts #BeautyInNature

If I subscribed to everything that wants me to... We basically wouldn't eat. The BBC News app AND the news website are both now only viewable in Canada and the US to subscribers. Nice. (Not.) Uninstall. Happily, there are other news outlets (and also archive.is where I can read them anyway, if I care to.) #BBC #NoSubs #news #EllieKPosts

Got it! Thanks @Lstn2urmama4 Suppliers everywhere were either out or only had small bottles, so I was glad to find a couple of the bigger ones at an excellent price. And completely safe for pets and people with no toxic chemicals. #TickRepellant #mosquitoRepellant

Okay then, who can tell me what this is? Fox?(Melanistic?) Coyote? EDIT: kind folks responding here have all guessed coyote. That's probably right. I've only ever seen them on night Time videos, which is why I wasn't sure. Thanks all. At first I thought fox but a very dark one. It also has quite long fur. Coyote? Looks a bit small and has short legs for a coyote. #idHelp #EllieKPosts #WildlifeWednesday

Okay #PeerTube #MakerTube hive mind... Edit: found it. Landscape mode only. Can someone tell me how I am supposed to log in to my account on a browser mobile device please? I can apply for a new account, but as I already have one, all I want to do is log in. But I cannot find a login link. Anyone? @MakerTube #EllieKPosts #peertubeHelp

The power of the forbidden? You all know that we have our MakerTube content that I share here from time to time - mostly they have been performance photography stills by Steven with music supplied with permission by the performer made into a video presentation. The content I share I boost and mention so that are many people get to view as possible. Obviously there's nothing in it for us, so it's just for fun. I also share with family and a friend or two. Most videos, despite...

#3goodThings 1. We went for a late walk, Steven, Joni and I and caught this beautiful sunset! We don't often see a sunset on our walls these days as we walk earlier. Such a treat. 2. I slept really well last night after an Epson salts bath. That's always a good thing. And I did my morning exercise routine including running on the spot for over 10 minutes. 3. I received my order of spring planting garlic as I realised that one bed of 8'x4' is not enough for us...

Wait for me! #ThreeGoodThings 1. Today was a day I went for a joyride (bike ride that brought me joy), but all on my own. I had Tony with me (more on Tony another time, he's my mascot), but Steven was busy finishing our stereo unit (wait for that one!) and I went to get the mail (1km away) in a roundabout trip of 10km. I had to go slowly through the puddles in the woods as we had had some quite heavy rain, but otherwise it was a quick ride around the block. I gambled and took a road...

Good morning Fedi Friends! As we pulled into our drive after an early morning appointment, I glanced into the field and spotted this little fellow just resting there. She/he looked so pretty through the flowers in the morning light, I took this. It's 10x zoom from my phone, so the quality is as you would expect, but I wanted to share with you all and wish you all a good #WildlifeWednesday morning! I hope you all have as good a day as possible. #EllieKPosts #fox #NovaScotia #fallColor...

We have Spring here too. #3goodThings 1. Not to bee outdone (sorry), our Spring is starting with a vengeance, so even a bad night (they happen, don't they?) didn't dampen my delight at seeing this busy Bumblebee on what I think is a maple tree at the start of our trail. 2. It is a very warm 23ºC and we can go for a walk without putting on lots of layers and boots. Hooray! 3. This morning I really hoped to see deer on my trail cam from overnight, something I knew would ma...

Today's lunch was so good! I made vegan halloumi yesterday ready for today and so we had some air fried with air fryer parsnip chips, whole grain rice and an onion, garlic, mushroom, spinach and Bok Choy dish with a vegan yogurt and lemon sauce we both enjoyed. I've been working on that creamy mushroom spinach Bok Choy recipe for a few days now and with the addition of a little smoked paprika, nutritional yeast and some lemon juice, I have to say that today it was 👌. I had a l...

Happy Monday! (Food/chocolate question) Calling sweet cooks! With the current astronomical rise in the price of dark chocolate and as we're keenly feeling the lack of it in our coffee time and dessert treat department, I have had to come up with an alternative solution. These little superfood bites (whole food, vegan) are the answer as they are quick to make and delicious. (Recipe from the How Not to Die cookbook, I'll post if anyone's interested). I rolled these in d...

"Those idiot drivers..." Maybe. Maybe not. This is an excellent video discussing the cognitive issues involved in being on the road, weather as a cyclist, pedestrian or a driver. It talks about (among other things) the main differences between footage shot on a camera and what the human brain observes. It's well worth a watch. It makes you think about our cognitive limitations (and our attitudes to the people around us). YouTube link https://youtube.com/watch?v=nvZ0Vs...

It's one of those days when a walk in the woods is the only answer (whatever the question was)... That, or a bike ride, but I wouldn't have spotted this moss on the tree beside the path from my bike. And can I just say that the 'health system' in England is the pits? #EllieKPosts #Mosstodon #woodland #moss #forest

I was saying to myself just this morning when I was feeling depressed about the weather (etc), that I have to be patient. It's only March, after all. Then. No. It's April already. 4º. Snow tonight. That's enough now. (This is my best grandmother's voice.) Smarten up! #EllieKPosts #weather #NovaScotia
