Oh absolutely, education and intelligence are very much not the same thing. I spent a while in academia and my impression is that education is much more about class than it is about how nimble your brain is.

@tsvga But also, just because someone is smart doesn't mean they wish well for the world. Jeff Bezos is a smart guy and he's an absolute plague on us all.

@passenger In the past I did industrial R&D and occasionally visited universities. University staff were some of the most classist people I've ever met.

@passenger @tsvga intelligence isn't even a thing. it has no meaningful definition. this is why i strongly discourage using words like "smart" and "stupid" to describe people. they make very shallow impressions of the depth of anyone's experience in existing. eugenicists used those words to categorise people for sub-humanisation and mass murder.
