@smeg Having said this, modern cities should be, by design, environmentally friendly and 5 minute cities.

@QCCEChris @smeg When the city does a good job of keeping the bike lane clear, we cyclists do a much better job of using them.

@QCCEChris @smeg have you tried commuting by bike using your city's cycle lanes? You should - you'd probably discover why folks don't, and then you'd be better able to push your municipal government to fix those problems and make cycling infrastructure that's fit for purpose. Because I promise you, those bike commuters aren't in front of your car for fun.

@QCCEChris most bike lanes in North America become car parking lanes - because paint is not infrastructure! Also, they rarely route very far and end after a few blocks. They certainly don't connect the rider to their full destination. If they're going to have to re-enter the car lanes anyway, and often, I can understand the impetus to just stay there and not have to negotiate frequent re-entries.

@QCCEChris @smeg And here's a big baby! How wide's your car? How wide's a bike? And in view of those facts, why is it the bike's fault that your cage has difficulty finding room to pass?

@QCCEChris @smeg but it's ok to expect cyclists to use crappy excuses for cycling infrastructure that require them to yield at every side street, dodge potholes and obstructions, and not only lose time, but their own energy and sweat whenever they have to slow down? There wouldn't be traffic signals if it weren't for cars. Those damned cars, slowing us down. 😂
