The more I think about it, actually owning something, whether it be media of some sort, self-hosted tech stuff, some random physical object, or really just anything that doesn't have any additional rental strings attached -- no matter how one acquired said item -- is one of the most cyberpunk (or maybe just plain punk) things one can do in today's society. It's about agency and seizing the means of one's own quality of life. And being able to do whatever the hell one wants to do with that thing whenever the hell one wants to do it, including repairing it or repurposing it -- or even giving it away to someone else. Personal autonomy is punk as hell these days. I wish that weren't the case, but sadly it is.
