2/. ...because we are not neurotypical on this side of a fence, and neurodivergent on that side, we are individuals with male/female mental and emotional differences, on top of which is an array of experience, convictions, obsessions etc.
Add to that, that by the time someone begins to think they might be autistic, they have faced so much self doubt in their ability to communicate and be understood, that they find it difficult to open up for fear of ability to explain.

@bobjmsn@mastodon.scot @KatyElphinstone@mas.to every once in a while I "wake up" and am startled that people know and talk about all this stuff now. My life has been largely that of the "proud isolated autist" and I'm so glad whenever I become aware of our vast numbers and mature identities.
