@robin @freakboy3742 not trying to defend callous inattentive people here, but I will say there are forms of "name blindness" that make these mistakes easy to make, specifically with "ambiguous" names. For me it seems my brain stores and looks up names as a whole, which makes it much harder to split off the first name. I literally have had that problem with Russell 😅 I apparently have him stored as "RussellKeithMagee", but not as "Russel". I'm often slightly surprised when people call him by his first name the first time in a convo, and if I try to use his first name (unprompted) without thinking about it, it's not "Russell". I have to actively reason about it, it doesn't come naturally, unlike with most names that have "obvious" first and last components. Like I said, not an excuse, but it is a reason why I can see that happening when people don't take enough care (like they might not with strangers.)
