In case anyone thinks “hey, this sounds familiar”, I’ve done this for a couple of years now, both the thread and the gift matching. The threads were on birdsite, and I won’t link to them (you can find them yourself if you really want to).

It's two years old but the sentiment is the same.

A few things have progressed since then. Last year the PSF hired Łukasz Langa as Developer-in-Residence, with his work being overseen by the Steering Council. The first year was paid for by Google, the second by Meta, and we already have leads on funding for a third year and beyond. We also successfully concluded the migration from bugs.python.org to GitHub Issues this year thanks to all the support from the PSF (and from GitHub).
