They're a big source of inspiration, fascination and joy to me, but I would *never* claim any direct connection to them; even though I have genetic links to an area the Neanderthals survived longest, an area where AMH hunter-gatherer genetics endured for much longer than anywhere else, and hell, there's a syndrome that runs in my family that is moderately linked to Neanderthal introgression. This discovery of palaeolithic protocuneiform is not something Europeans only should be proud of, but all of us. This is a purely human story. A story of creativity and curiosity. (11/12)
