@manchuck For some it may have started as a passion, turning it into a job ruined their passion, but for most it's just a way to pay the bills. People who become doctors and lawyers for the pay and prestige; that happened to programmers too.
For anyone who still cares, they're locked in an existential trauma feedback loop. I've tried convincing my coworkers but they're too scared about losing their job and trying to meet artificial deadlines.
Me? I'm in denial that I need to work to live.

@zimzat At least with other professions, there are governing bodies that help prevent abuse from managers. Maybe it was just my upbringing. I was always taught that if you put your name on something, make sure the work you do is the best you can. It reflects on you. Even when I was working shit pay jobs, I took that to heart
