audio of that - also includes some little white noise bursts as i wanted to check the freq response too. the good one is firefox (first in the audio), the bad one is chrome (second in the audio). also chrome rounds off some high freqs.

  • ALSO while i had strudel and OBS open.. i've seen people talk about 'the strudel master compressor' but (i looked in the docs and the source) i don't see one? but i could've sworn [mah]alias was riding hard into something last time i saw her play. puzzled. so: i tried to see how clipped sounds are handled in strudel/browsers. tests were windows, degoogled chromium and firefox, and my friend luke checked both on his mac. i recorded into OBS, him into live using 32bit float. i tested clipping by turning down the browser's volume in the windows mixer. more surprises! firefox passes the audio - you put s("bd").gain(100) you get a wave 100x louder than unity, firefox outputs it. if the windows mixer volume is right down it doesn't hit the top and you can see it happening. if the windows mixer is up.... another surpise: windows has a compressor on the outs! (W11) wow. very slow release, like around a bar? not sure i could hear much character in the attack. probably not a secret studio weapon. osx doesnt have app volume controls(?) or a compressor. but does have better interapp audio routing and if you send firefox to a DAW and record 32bit you capture the whole full range signal. hope i've not missed anything or mistaked here, tell me if i have!
