Since switching to #postmarketOS, one of the things I missed most from Android is this curious keyboard app &quot;Unexpected Keyboard,&quot; which lets you access most symbols with a swipe. Importantly for Linux, it has Ctrl, Tab, Escape, and arrows! I found a repo called &quot;Unfettered Keyboard&quot; (by @flamingradian), which is a faithful port of the base features from my favorite keyboard! I switched to #PlasmaMobile a couple days back and am so thrilled to be able to use this keyboard on it!!

This is the repository: https://gitlab.com/flamingradian/unfettered-keyboard (yes, I used Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on my phone to send that) I'm using a not-yet-merged aports package by yoxcu: https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge_requests/96838 With this, I simply select it in system settings and it works. Need to accept a permissions prompt on every login, but worthy price to pay for such an awesome keyboard.

Screenshot has an older version of the toot hehe. Ran out of characters, as usual, but I wanted to thank the pmOS Matrix room, as someone helpfully linked the repo when I asked. I was on GNOME Mobile at the time (when I wrote my first pmOS blogpost), which doesn't support changing the keyboard. I briefly switched to Phosh and (while not easy) I *did* get this keyboard working on it. But now on Plasma it was as easy as tapping the option in settings. Awesome! Next: get the compose key working.
