280 years since the Battle of Culloden (1746). A battle that begun the Ordnance Survey, a map created to systematically map the Highlands to locate the outlawed Jacobites and ensure no-one could rise up against The Crown again. A map borne of blood and cultural-genocide.

@mactunag what is often not appreciated is that the garrisons and guard points that were set up to accommodate government troops took no account of whether the locals had opposed or supported the government. Basically, it was the whole of Scotland. As this map shows, those loyal to King George were treated exactly the same as those who followed Prince Charles.

There's so much bullshit I hear about Culloden. It wasn't about independence. It wasn't Scotland vs England. It wasn't Scots vs Scots, or Gael vs Gael for that matter.Jacobites didn't lose because they didn't have archers on horseback (most ridiculous I've heard)Jacobites didn't lose because they weren't wearing shoesthe Battle didn't end the clan system Lots of other oddities too. But folk will Prebble their history; less truth more Braveheart
