Anyone speak Hungarian? How should an English-speaker pronounce 'Magyar'? The BBC seems to swing between 'Mag Yar' with s hard 'g' and 'Ma Jar' (soft 'g'). #Hungary #Magyar

@pthane Tricky question, there is no equivalent in English to the consonant gy. I think the closest is the j in 'jungle'.

@pthane The Wikipedia pronunciation is correct: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_language Hungarian is a phonetic language but there are some composite letters, like "gy", which are pronounced more or less like trying to merge the two (or more) letters into one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_alphabet
