Another summary that I think is interesting in hindsight: The practice that documentation of an artwork and an instantiation of an artwork are separate things, and documentation can never be the "real" thing, 1) is rooted in the museum logic of "artwork is taken out of storage for exhibition" that doesn't work well with most digital art and 2)—perhaps paradoxically—prevents useful historicization of digital art.

    @despens I really liked those examples of how "blurry" net artworks were transformed by incorporating documentation practices (like caching). Have you ever considered/tried configuring similar pieces to to talk to the external web through a recording proxy (e.g. pywb)? Depending on the deployment I guess there could be privacy issues related to doing that instead of caching only what is needed for the performance?
