the zine also mentions self-hosting as a radical means of resistance and while i am personally not even going to question the immense value of hosting one's own tech, i do want to circle back to a lack of meaningful engagement with legislation all entities that self-host content hosting and dissemination platforms (like mastodon) are legally liable for hosting illegal material once they are made aware that the content exists. this is, again, the #DSA (7/12)

every time we talk about the radical potential of self-hosting, we need to fully engage with the legality of the act in some jurisdiction, content on LGBTQIA+ healthcare may be illegal content. same goes for abortion. same goes for certain critiques of political or religious entities. techies, tinkerers and radicals would benefit immensely be engaging with the realities of the law as such. not only the text of the law but also how it is applied. @catileptic I think far too much of radical thought doesn't engage with immediate steps that existing institutions can make to undermine systems of oppression. I put part of this that radicals have been successfully driven out of institutional power, retreating to underground or academia where only individualist approaches are viable. Adtech platforms are able to exist as they do in large part because there are few viable alternatives for local institutions that would otherwise be sites of resistance. How is the local artisan bakery supposed to advertise? How is the local church supposed to coordinate events? How can we make it more convenient for the smaller powers that be to align with us, instead of with the enemies of humanity?
