Since there seems to be renewed interest in #CDE, I thought I'd have a look at the my CDE utilities from back then, which led me to my old Web page “Linux on a VAIO Z600LEK” http://dynalabs.de/mxp.old/vaio/index.html, because there's a screenshot of my work environment from back then. ⇢ #retrocomputing

Searching for the release date of the Vaio, I found this page https://vaiolibrary.com/index.php/PCG-Z, where it says that “This laptop is unusable today apart from some offline office tasks like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and some extremely basic websites. Don't expect late 90s-2000s games to run on the laptop, at least at high settings, these are better suited for MS-DOS gaming due to the low power graphics chip.” I remember it running Linux with CDE very well, but hey…

@mxp@mastodon.acm.org hello friend. I remember this page. I also had a vaio. I’d the Z600NEK which was the slightly earlier 650Mhz version. I also ran XiG accelerated X and CDE environment. Good times
