@europlus @DosFox @danieltufvesson I did that once on an already-broken drive to see what would happen. It does look like the sort of thing that should be fine to lift up and bend back down. The sort of thing that should be handy for cleaning a head. But jeepers, nope! Not doing that one again >.<

  • @billgoats @europlus @DosFox I have been able to repair a few drives like that, as long as the spring steel is not cracked or stretched, by placing a drill bit just before the hinge and gently applying downward force to reshape the spring. The plastic head lifter part has to be removed of course. It takes many tries to get it back. It’s more of a massage back into shape rather than bending it. Then the tricky part is getting the head pressure correct. Compare with a healty drive.
