Wouldn’t it be nice if the web had little neighborhoods? 🚏🏘️🌳 Got to thinking about this after reading @nazhamid’s post: https://nazhamid.com/journal/the-hunt/ Visiting each other’s sites is like hunting, but chance encounters are rare because there are no neighborhoods (familiar or new). I know this is sorta the opposite of the IRL experiences @nazhamid@mastodon.social talks about… just got to wondering about capturing a similar feeling.

@timbrown@mastodon.social @nazhamid@mastodon.social I do like this and think there's some potential! When I do wander around the web neighborhood, it is usually by following a recommendation, and falling down the latest rabbit hole. I think this is "Classic" web citizen behavior back when there wasn't as many distractions so you had to go find your own.

@timbrown@mastodon.social @nazhamid@mastodon.social once upon a time there was a hosting platform called Geocities that was organised around the concept of neighbourhoods, and it was exactly as you describe: each neighbourhood had a specific vibe, and browsing the directory was very much like hunting!
