@setto @silverpill I actually run my Mastodon on raspberrypi. It's just one user and a librarian bot though. Also Lemmy, Pixelfed and a bunch of other tools.
The single user experience has been great here. We could use a better suite of relays. But once you start federating with other instances with follows, boosts, and relays, you can watch your graph start to grow naturally. It's actually a made me appreciate social again. No firehose effect that you get from the big instances. And I truly get to control my feed.
I would say such a thing isn't the path for non-technical users. But the tools are well packaged, open source, and freely available.

Oh and before you go and express yourself, do a little marketing crusade to get people to follow that account too! @silverpill
