There are tons of examples like this, and recognition that this historical bias exists immediately decreases support of the idea that AI finds things that humans missed. What is happening is that an extensive review process finds things using an updated knowledge base. This extensive review could/should be done by human security experts, but the resources to do so are simply not there for most software artefacts.

Having a reasonably cheap automation to do so is a very valuable service indeed , but there is no need to hype things up and inflate the bubble further. My 2c as a researcher who uses a lot of software for data analyses and is forced to consider security because of the increasing complexity of regulations about biomedical and human electronic health record data.
