Yikes, getting stuck in an elevator is not fun. I was once stuck in the one in my building for a less that 5 minutes but it still gives you a big fright. The doors closed and I pressed for my floor and nothing happened. Luckily I knew the caretaker was nearby and rather than press the emergency button I shouted and they heard me. They were able to get the lift restarted within a few minutes.

@raymierussell In 1991 there were essentially no tourists in Wuhan and the tower was... just there. It had opened in the late 80s, so it was still brand new and one could go up to the observatory at 220m. So it happened that I was alone with the elevator attendant going up and we got stuck at about 200m up. The door opened to blank concrete. 😅 The attendant had a radio and she called down to the staff, and - I guess - they replaced the fuse that had blown. Maybe 15 minutes? Felt like hours.
