@sarahdalgulls At different points in the late '80s, I bought two daily use bags. One was a large, plain canvas zipper purse from Walmart ($10?) , and the other was a lovely purple backpack from North Face or similar (maybe $45?) Both were perfect in every way. I used both of them hard, stuffed 'em full and dragged them across rocks, and never saw any signs of wear. About 10 years ago, I passed them both to new owners, looking almost new, especially the purple pack.
