Meanwhile, corporate/billionaire/government interests remain aligned against true action in response to climate change, habitat loss, wasteful consumerism, etc. The case here in Australia of Violet Coco being jailed for at least eight months for blocking one lane of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for 25 minutes is just one example of how aggressively these forces may work to maintain the status quo. Conservation and sustainability planning depends on high-quality data from satellites, sensor networks, field research, survey and monitoring effort, and citizen science. Ultimately all good decisions on land use, species protection, decarbonisation, poverty reduction, social equity, etc. depend on good, trusted data. And we increasingly depend on data infrastructures to manage and organise these data. (4/6)
