Today I found six observations in #iNaturalist that include what may well be the only photos ever taken of live many-plume #moths in the genus #Triscaedecia. This is a rarely recorded genus for which I accidentally became co-author on a 2019 global revision: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/332013222 There are six named species, four first described in the 2019 paper. As I mentioned the other day, I really wanted an ultra-simple way to declare the contents of a slideshow presentation without getting sucked deep into Node.js hell. Like pretty much everybody tech-adjacent, I&#39;ve been thinking about the implications of mainstream tools like ChatGPT. Most of what people learn and believe is already mediated through selective algorithms. We know social media can be used to game elections and discourage civil engagement, but AI chat tools could soon affect every single interaction we have on the web. Most of us are bad at assessing the evidence for what we hear or read. (1/6)

Spending the day proofreading a book, so I&#39;m playing my way through CAN&#39;s discography in chronological order: Delay 1968, Monster Movie, Soundtracks, Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days, Soon Over Babaluma, Landed. I&#39;ve got nothing positive to say about the colonialist programme with which he&#39;s most associated but #Kipling&#39;s short stories are a marvel. His prose is so controlled and modern, he throws us into minimally specified contexts, and he can sketch a character or mood with just a few words. One example I&#39;ve always loved is his Dayspring Mishandled (from Limits and Renewals). There&#39;s so much going on with this story. https://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0603781h...
