Many things in Apple’s new UI design language get bigger when you interact with them, and I just find it so odd. It’s relatively harmless (though annoying) with things like sidebars, but there are some elements where this actively interferes with what you’re trying to do. As an example, in the Music app, the your current position in the seek bar is different when mouse button is up vs. when it’s down. The player bar in Music is in general one of the grossest UI I’ve seen on the Mac recently.

The entire design language and design system feels so short-sighted. There are so many things where they clearly thought “oh wouldn’t it be delightful if this thing [zoomed/glowed/morphed/melted]”, they looked at it maybe a few times in isolation, but never actually paused to think about real-world use and the edge cases that inevitably come with it. And now we’re living with things that animate in funky ways but feel broken and unconsidered.

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social There are so many problems with the Music app. It’s like the hero of this phase

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social I assume this is laying the groundwork for touch screen mac's (meh). i would rather they took the approach (and maybe they will, who knows) of more of an adaptive UI based on input rather than just one (bigger) UI used for any and all types of input
