MIT technology review says "Within three years of going mainstream, AI is now used by more than half of people around the world" That has a whiff of colossal bullshit to me when 1/8 of the world are under 14. 2 billion people don't have an internet connection. 600 million live in extreme poverty. It sounds a lot like a technology shrill smoothing the numbers, and lowering the bar of what counts as an AI

  • @ronanmcd@mastodon.green 100% a shrill. When you do a search and you ignore that AI summary - that's you using AI. When you ignore that update in an app that says now powered by co-pilot, that's another use of AI. When you say to your phone "25 minute alarm", you've used AI. When you try to get through to customer service via an online bot, you've used AI. Numbers are inflated for sure. Any and all excuses for big tech to justify the grift and the trillions wasted that will one day cause the next round of austerity is used.
