Apologies for dragging this particular topic out for yet another airing but... there's something very strange about a world where we're expected to have an AI write something for us (whether directly from a prompt, or rewriting something we already wrote) and then send it to somebody who is expected to use AI to summarize the while thing, and maybe even write a reply. What are we even doing then? You could argue that we're replacing ourselves with new AI overlords but it's not like it can do anything at all by itself without an intelligence directing it and giving it prompts and verifying and all that. We're still needed, only now we've created a huge expensive industry-disrupting middle-man which gets to mediate all our conversations? And it does this by averaging out all similar conversations in its training set (with a sprinkle of random number generator for the illusion of creative spontenaity, sorry "heat") and this is supposed to make communication better? Imagine if we just short circuited the whole thing and shared our prompts directly! How would THAT be for communication? "Hi Bob, I told the AI: Please reject Bob's invitation. Make it clear that this is not personal, and keep it friendly. Explain that I am already busy doing something else, and suggest another time. Use my calendar to suggest another time when I am free'. Cheers, Al

@uastronomer@mastodon.monoceros.co.za direct and clear communication without anything in-between. Huh.

@uastronomer What are we doing? We're introducing a middle-man everywhere, yes. Not for purposes of making communication better, but for purposes of making communication worse. In particular, the extra steps introduce extra attack surface for introducing pro-fascism bias and propaganda everywhere. This helps funnel even more money toward the pro-fascism already filthy wealthy. There's a lot of money to be made, by the already wealthy, making themselves even wealthier.

@uastronomer If you would like to complain, I could give you reasons to hate AI more. You're almost close to naming the true harm AI causes. Genre capture.
