I'm pretty sure contractors have been doing that for decades, if not millennia.

within reason. my grandfather and father were both contractors spanning back to the 1910s. I was fortunate enough to work with both of them. corners were cut, however not to the extent that the final product was defective or negligent. more so, contractors would come back if there was a problem and not ghost you.
