This freaked people out, the fact that I was mostly ok. That I was even happy, much of the time.
I started to feel a pressure to perform grief for their sakes. I decided that that was fucked up, and I wasn't going to.
I lost a lot of friends round about then. Coincidence?

Two and a half years later, I'm still refusing to do the performative grief shit. And it's still clearly bothering people. They get the Sad Look and make pitying noises and say "oh I didn't knowwwwww". I give them a blank look and change the subject. 8/

@Tattie this remind me how in old hetero couple, when the woman die first, the man often follow the next year. If the man die first, the woman often stay alive at least a few more years. I guess it's related a bit, like men putting all their feeling toward one person and falling appart when she's gone and they expect everyone to do the same.
